 Tornado

 Multihull - Open

Published: 06/07/2008
Beijing 08 GB representatives: Will Howden Leigh McMillan

The Tornado is the only catamaran in the Olympic Games and is the fastest of all the classes, able to reach speeds of over 35 knots. The class was designed by Rodney Marsh in 1967 and made its Olympic debut in 1976. The Tornado, which has a crew of two, was modified for the 2004 Olympic Games with the introduction of an asymmetric spinnaker and twin trapeze for both the helm and crew, making it an exciting and often acrobatic class.
